Extenda-Shield is an ultra-strong protective coating from the Brooks' line of Extenda products. The product successfully extends the life of many materials, including wood crossarms. The easy-to-use formula quickly coats the surface making the crossarm or wood pole virtually impenetrable! Save time and money on repair and replacement by using Extenda-Shield!

Project History

The initial objective was to discover a coating material which would extend the life of a crossarm by protecting it from the elements of weather; such as moisture, sunlight, and sandstorms and at the same time encapsulate and extend the life of the treating chemicals within the crossarm.  Throughout the years of testing and development, it became apparent that the coating material would provide superior protection to poles and structures, as well as crossarms, from woodpecker attack because of the coating's energy absorbing qualities.

What is the Coating?

The coating material is a sprayed plural A and B component pure polyurea elastomer and is based on amine-terminated polyether resins.  It is 100% solids with no VOC's and has a fast setting time.  When sprayed, it gels in about 6 seconds and can be handled tack free in a minute or two.  This coating is similar to those being applied as truck bed liners; however, it is a high end product with much higher tensile strength, elongation, and tear resistance.
